Six Primary Pieces (for Piano)

Six Primary Pieces is a collection of Grade 1 to Grade 2 pieces that gradually introduce various musical aspects. Each piece is tuneful and relates to a subject. The first piece, The Circus Comes to Town is the simplest and introduces progressive leaps in the bass, against a legato melody. At the Supermarket introduces the concept of alternate melodic progression from bass to treble. This is continued in Channel Crossing, which also introduces waltz time with a pedal accompaniment. Riding to Town introduces 6/8 time and two-note chords throughout, with changes in tempo through rallentando and ritenuto. Walking Through the Park explores 2/4 time and the effect of tied notes and note accentuation. The final piece, After the Rain, introduces a two-part bass and internal melody.
